Falling oil prices mean energy companies and their investors can expect lower profits and cash fl组合滑梯ow in the coming months but big, integrated oil companies could find a recently unloved part of their business--oil refining--providing a cushion.

Companies reporting third quarter earnings in coming weeks should show the early effects of the drop. Brent crude fell nearly 16% in the three months ended in September. It has continued falling this month, hitting $88 a barrel Tuesday, down from $112.4 a barrel at t水族箱he end of June.
